1-800 Contacts is the largest contact lens retailer in the United States and first pioneered the direct-to-consumer model in 1995. Jonathan C. Coon and John F. Nichols began the company in a Brigham Young University dorm room, and it revolutionized the optical industry by enabling consumers to bypass the traditional markups from doctor offices and order replacement contact lenses directly by phone and online. The company has tens of millions of lenses in stock and provides exact-match major brands such as Acuvue, Air Optix, Biofinity and DAILIES, along with its specialized proprietary brand, AquaSoft Daily. Brand has been a big advocate of digital healthcare beyond just retail basics.
