In the early 1900s, a jewelry and furniture store called M. Goldberg & Sons merged to become Raymour & Flanigan, which has its origins in Syracuse. As the family business grew, Sol Goldberg and his sons Bernard and Arnold founded a new furniture-only business in 1946. Raymour Furniture Company was on its way to becoming the biggest furniture and mattress retailer in the northeastern United States and the seventh largest in the country when it adopted the name from a family-run antiques store.

The company's current name came from Raymour's 1990 acquisition of the 14-store Flanigan's Furniture chain. With an increasing number of handy showroom and outlet locations, Raymour & Flanigan is still a reputable, family-run furniture destination today.
